EDITORIAL TAKEAWAY

Review saved model choices in custom agents, scheduled tasks and scripts. Choose a replacement available to your plan, client and workspace, then try a familiar task.

Before you try it

  • Applies to Codex sessions using ChatGPT sign-in, effective October 14, 2026 at noon PDT (19:00 UTC). It does not retire the model from the OpenAI API or API-key-authenticated Codex sessions.
  • OpenAI points Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users to GPT-6.1 Sol when available. For Free and Go, it points to GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app when available.
  • Replacement access depends on client, rollout and workspace controls. Enterprise and Edu administrators may need to enable a model.

A small next step

Our suggested way to explore the change.

  1. Look for saved gpt-5.5 selections in workspace defaults, custom agents, scheduled tasks and scripts.
  2. Select an available replacement and review any administrator requirements.
  3. Run a familiar task and check its result before relying on the updated setup.
